Candidate 5012 Creative Critical Reflection

How did you integrate technologies - software, hardware, and online - in this project? To create the best possible product, and magazine as a whole, I had to utilize multiple forms of technology, apps, and websites. Initially, to conduct research for my magazine, it was easiest to use online magazine websites to find out more about their marking and distribution processes. Further, these magazines have Media Kits attached to their websites for their audiences to learn more about their digital distribution, traditional distribution, social media followers, and the total number of subscribers to their magazine. The next thing I was required to do was take pictures in a photo-shoots for my entire magazine. I was able to take all my pictures over the span of 3 days and that was really helpful. How did your production skills develop throughout this project? At the beginning of this project, I knew how to use Microsoft Powerpoint and Word proficiently but over time, I was able to utilize Microsoft Publisher and Photoshop and better my understanding of the other apps as well. Beyond computer technologies, I learned how to set up an interview, edit pictures, use a Canon camera instead of my iPhone, and set up photo-shoots, professionally. Setting up my interview and photo-shoot with Jake Ilardi was something I had never done before. I was able to develop my communication skills and become a better listener due to this experience. Additionally, the interview taught me how to better manage my time and control my schedule more efficiently. This newfound responsibility helped me discover more ways in which I can work better in school and other activities. How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text? By creating my magazine's issue, I was able to use marking techniques that would aid in the selling process as well as create a digital and traditional distribution plan for our magazine as a whole. To engage with our audience one of my group members and I created an Instagram for our magazine called @sotawellnessmag. Our platforms include our website which is also a form of distribution because they are able to access our recent and most popular articles through the link. Overall, my group and I believe that our magazine will grow the most due to social media because our demographics and social groups are directed mostly towards the younger generation but every will have access to these sites. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? Throughout my individual project, and our magazine as a whole,  my group and I have researched multiple magazines to determine which conventions we would use and challenge. Overall, I have been able to mimic their style and formats to follow magazine conventions. On my cover page, I started with creating my title. We chose 'Sota Wellness in all capital letters similar to Self magazine to create a bold and confident atmosphere which will ultimately encourage our readers to have the same mindset. I then continued to incorporate more conventions like the layout of the cover model on the cover page. Jake Ilardi, my cover model who is also featured in my 2 page spread, is positioned in the center of the page with his head overlapping the 'W' and the 'E' in Wellness.
