Magazine Project Genre Research- Shape

This issue of Shape magazine displays Carrie Underwood in a flattering black tank top and skinny jeans. Around her are catchy phrases that emphasize a desire for a healthier lifestyle. Multiple different bold fonts and similar colors create a more coordinated piece. The title of the magazine is the same on every issue in a large eye-catching font and the slogan "Be beautiful Be in Shape"; this is an important aspect of the magazine because similar slogans are used on every issue of Shape. Continually on every cover, a model is seen posing for the issue and her head takes the place of the 'A'. The background behind the model is always a neutral tone as well; whites and grays are utilized to present a clean format. Similar to our genre of magazine, most of the featured articles are related to health and fitness as well as maintaining the "perfect" body shape. Articles that appear frequently in their magazines are lifestyle, healthy eating, fitness, weight loss, and beauty. Advertisements are placed throughout the entire magazine, and most of them are about healthcare products, food, and workout apparel; they are scattered around and usually can be found on every other page. On the table of contents, there is either a posed picture of someone exercising or some sort of food item. ShapeSquad is a series of articles that demonstrates exercises and ways to maintain your health; these are located on pages 49 to 54. Their workout articles appear on pages 61, 64, and 92. The "Food&Nutrition" articles are on pages 69, 74, and 98 and cover a wide variety of recipes and clean eating tips. As a whole, Shape is distributed to about two million five hundred thousand people. As a group, if we were to sell our magazine, approximately five hundred thousand would be dispersed. Overall, Shape magazine is a highly esteemed form of print media that has won the following awards: the MIN editorial excellence for one of it's fitness mini series and the Folio award for it's "Future of Fitness" issue.
