CCR Draft #2

How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text? By creating my magazine's issue, I was able to use marking techniques that would aid in the selling process as well as create a digital and traditional distribution plan for our magazine as a whole. To engage with our audience one of my group members and I created an Instagram for our magazine called @sotawellnessmag. Our platforms include our website which is also a form of distribution because they are able to access our recent and most popular articles through the link. Overall, my group and I believe that our magazine will grow the most due to social media because our demographics and social groups are directed mostly towards the younger generation but every will have access to these sites. Also as part of our digital distribution plan we will utilize internet ads and business partnerships to engage with our audience more. With internet ads, our branding techniques can be used on...

CCR Draft #1

How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? Throughout my individual project, and our magazine as a whole,  my group and I have researched multiple magazines to determine which conventions we would use and challenge. Overall, I have been able to mimic their style and formats to follow magazine conventions. On my cover page, I started with creating my title. We chose 'Sota Wellness in all capital letters similar to Self magazine to create a bold and confident atmosphere which will ultimately encourage our readers to have the same mindset. I then continued to incorporate more conventions like the layout of the cover model on the cover page. Jake Ilardi, my cover model who is also featured in my 2 page spread, is positioned in the center of the page with his head overlapping the 'W' and the 'E' in Wellness. This layout/convention is used in multiple fitness and health magazines such as Health, Women's Heal...

Revisions- Article

Image
After revising both my cover and Table of Contents, it was clear that my two page article needed improvements of its own. The main concern that my peers had when I first presented my magazine was that my article was much too long. So even before changing anything with the format of my article, I decided to take out and revise multiple paragraphs. Leaving in the most important aspects, I was left with a better version of my article with the same meaning and principles; how skateboarding affects your physically health and well-being. After making grammatical corrections and shortening it, I had to format my article again to fit the pages. This was kind of a lengthy process because I had to change the size of the fonts multiple times and make sure the paragraphs fit well. I also received a lot of constructive criticism about my pictures and it was very helpful. By reviewing their comments, I was able to make my pictures much bigger and add captions on the pages to give the audience more o...

Revisions- Table of Contents

Image
When I presented my Mid Term submission, my peers gave good feedback for me to work off of and made it much easier for me to make revisions. In the end, I had very minute revisions that I had to make on my Table of Contents; the formatting and fonts were my main issues that had to be resolved. One of the first changes that I made was the font of the articles and their subheadings. I decided to make the page numbers of my articles smaller; they were initially size 28 font and I shrunk them down to size 20. I then made changes to the fonts of the article titles because they were initially in Calibri but it wasn't consistent with the rest of my project so I decided it would be best to switch it to Kalinga. By switching these fonts on the major articles, I also had to edit my In Every Issue column to make the Table of Contents more cohesive. In addition to font changes, I added more branding to the bottom of my page and fixed the format of my page numbers to match my other group membe...

Distribution Plan

My group and I have done research on distribution and circulation of magazines and we have chosen to go with both a digital and traditional method. Digitally, we could produce a website where our articles and advertisements can be displayed. Attached to the website will be an area where our subscribers can sign up for our newsletter and receive monthly articles and insight on wellness, fitness, skincare, beauty, and health in general. On social media apps we can create profiles for our magazine on each platform. For example, we already have an Instagram account with the username 'sotawellnessmag' and we post pictures from our article with marketing techniques such as hashtags, username tags, and catchy sayings. Along with our Instagram platform, we can make a Twitter profile to take polls and surveys about what our audience wants to see in future issues and newsletters if they are subscribed to our magazine. Continually, our audience that uses Facebook more often would apprecia...

Digital Distribution Research- Self

Over the years, Self magazine has transitioned from a traditional form, print media, to a fully digital style and format. Distributed all over the United States, Self magazine utilizes social media platforms, a newsletter subscription, eBooks, and online articles to engage with an audience that chooses the internet over traditional magazines. In these different platforms, they use branding methods such as their websites and their links to read full articles and other links to articles that the reader could possibly be interested in. Subscribers to Self magazine receive their newsletters monthly and are able to see recent updates and current articles with the click of a button. Self magazine is a subsidiary to their main publisher, Conde Nast, but still remains a very popular and well known brand in the realm of digital media. On their website, Self.com, Self magazine focuses on community, wellness, inclusivity, and health. All of these digital techniques involving branding with website...
